Description
The project comprised twin bored running tunnels with single service tunnel under the English Channel to allow for the direct connection of the British and Mainland European rail network. The project involved the development of large road / rail terminals either end of the tunnel allowing loading and unloading for channel vehicle traffic including buses, coaches and lorries using the trains as a coast to coast shuttle service. The crossing was located at the 26 miles narrowest width of the channel.

Corderoy was employed as commercial managers. The Works included the UK tunnels and terminal the entire fire equipment (comprising trackwork, caterarg system, power supply, telecommunication, control centres, signalling, drainage, fire fighting and tunnel cooling system) and the rolling stock. Various contract strategies had been developed and implemented including employer designed target cost and design and contract lump sum. The latter strategy related to high technical element such as rolling stock and the former to the civil engineering work.
